Literature Text

I once loved a man that I had never met
Was told to fear a man I never knew.
A man who thoughts exceeded mines
Whose judgment was always true
An idea of conformity; no room for thought
All good soldiers fall in line
Unquestioning devotion to this perfect being
But all tales of perfection has its cracks
Cracks for which the truth shines through
This man was not perfect, not in the slightest
Bigotry, misogyny, and homophobia
The very essence of hatred
How could truth be so crooked?
Love be so blackened?
On the contrary, this man was flawed
So, he cannot tell us how to live
He cannot tell us how to love
Truth is, he was never better than us
Because he was always one of us
My tale of the rise and subsequent fall of my belief in God

I wasn't raised religious, so i can't completely relate to this poem, but I connect to it nonetheless. I am a spiritual person myself, but I do not subscribe to any one religion.
